American Idol Gets Axed

For more than a decade and 3 years, American
Idol premiered and was an instant sensation as it
regularly drew almost 30 million viewers at its peak.

It began to lose its ratings few years back, this
worldwide the TV competition that was once a ratings powerhouse and produced one star recording artist after another.

It was announced that it will end its run after 15 seasons by Fox on Monday (Today).

Should this be blamed on declined ratings? Its ratings as of now is a far cry from the early days, when the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson appeared as complete unknowns before a three-judge panel. We know who they are today.

In a tweet, the show said that the upcoming season, which begins in January, will be its last.

Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr. will return as the judges for the final season as will host Ryan Seacrest and the last season will also serve as a “celebratory event,” paying tribute to fourteen seasons of contestants, winners and fans.

Throughout its fourteen seasons, other A-list judges have included Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Steven Tyler, Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres

American Idol was created by Simon Fuller and it first debuted in 2002 with original judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

News of the cancellation could give a final boost to this week’s ratings.
