Shocking photos of bullfighter ‘training’ has been revealed
showing children torturing young bulls to death. Animal activists who have
exposed the brutal practice were reduced to tears after seeing video of young
teens spearing the terrified animal.
At the bullfighting academy in Madrid, bloodstained students
as young as 14 repeatedly fail to make the killer blow as the calf reels in
agony.
Footage of the practical lessons has been uncovered by the
Animalist Party, known as PACMA in Spain.
Wendy Higgins, European communications director for Humane
Society International, said: "This is a repulsive spectacle. Teaching
young children to torture and kill animals for fun is a shocking low for the
bullfighting industry."
The young animals slip and fall several times and appear
frightened and uncoordinated before they subdue and kill the bull as the
students group around it.
Mimi Bekhechi, director of People for the Ethical Treatment
of Animals (Peta), said: "These bullfighting schools must be shut down
because of cruelty and child abuse. For a child being forced to watch a bullfight
can be traumatic enough, but encouraging children to participate in
deliberately harming and killing an animal for ‘amusement’ sends all the wrong
messages to developing young minds. It can lead them to become adults who are
dangerously desensitised to violence and have been stripped of their natural
empathy."
